Summer 2

What We Are Learning

Reading

Our Class Reader for this half term is Journey to Jo'burg by Beverley Naidoo.

Our Read Aloud at Home book is Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman.

Literacy

Some of our writing will continue to be based around our class reader, Journey to Jo'burg and some of our writing will be based around other topics that we are studying in class and the interests of the children. This half term we will be focusing on writing narratives and recounts.

Maths

In geometry, children will identify, describe and represent the position of a shape following a reflection or translation, use the appropriate language, and know that the shape has not changed.

Later, children will convert between different units of metric measure for example, km and m; cm and m; cm and mm; g and kg; l and ml. Children will understand and use approximate equivalences between metric units and common imperial units such as inches, pounds and pints. They will solve problems involving converting between units of time. Children will estimate volume and capacity and use all four operations to solve problems involving measure.

Science - Earth and Space

During this unit of work, the children will describe the movement of the Earth, Moon, and other planets; describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies and use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.

History - Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Our history topic for the Summer term is Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. The Knowledge organiser below sets out the key information that the children will be learning.
