Rhyme Time

We sing a nursery rhyme every day in nursery, repeating the same rhyme every day.  This week our rhyme is: Row, row, row your boat.

Drop Everything and Read

Learning about the world through stories and developing a love of books is promoted through our daily shared reading sessions.

We hope children enjoy watching and listening to our daily stories.  Children can of course watch the videos again and again and use the stories to inspire play and creative tasks.

Singing Songs - supporting learning across the curriculum

We love learning new songs and singing favourite songs in nursery.  Why not have a go at singing songs with the family:

Careful Counting!

Learning number names in order and chanting them supports children's awareness of number.  Learning to count objects carefully is a tricky skill to develop as objects can't always be moved. Counting out loud and matching the number names in time with the physical action of counting takes skill.  These skills need to be supported to develop over time and in lots of different contexts.  Here are some ideas:

- Go on a minibeast hunt. How many can you find?

-Go on a stone hunt.  Sort them into big and small, counting how many there are altogether and how many in each size group.

-Count steps as you move around the house.  Guess how many steps it will take to move from one place to another and then see if you were right.
