Outdoor Adventure Focus Week May 2023

Caring for wildlife - a focus on butterflies

Children in nursery were asked to find out more about butterflies as part of a whole school theme linked to the outdoor environment and conservation. The week involved lots of exploration outdoors at greater levels than our usual love for learning outdoors. The children embraced this challenge and learnt how to:

-'harvest' compost which they have been helping to make for more than a year;

- found out about wheelbarrows and helped to use one;

-created butterflies;

-learnt the manes of different types of butterfly;

- found out about how butterflies are helpful insects and why we need to help to protect them.

The list of learning from this week is a long one!

Our love for minibeasts reached new levels as the children learnt facts about butterflies and identified more minibeasts living in the nursery garden. Nature is amazing!
