Shirlehy Hughes
Our focus author for this half term is Shirley Hughes. We will be reading a selection of her work throughout the half term. some of our reading and writing learning will be based around her stories.
Science
In Science we will continue our learning about plants and we will observe changes over time when we grow our own seeds! We will also revisit Materials from the Autumn term to remind us if what we learnt at the start of Year 1 and to see how much we can now remember!
History
In history we are finishing our topic on Significant people before we move onto our exciting new topic about Toys and how they have changed over time. We will be visiting Abbey House Museum on Tuesday 12th March to see some real life artefacts and to learn about how children in the past would have played with them. We will compare them to toys that we have today.
Maths
In Maths we will start to consider numbers greater than 20. We will focus on the place value of numbers all the way to 50 and look at how many tens and how many ones each number has. We will order and compare these numbers. Look out for our weekly Mathletics homework which will focus on this learning! Later in the half term, we will focus on measuring length and height in our Maths lessons.
English
In English we will start the term by looking at the features of a non fiction text. We will discuss how these texts are different to stories because they are factual. We will write our own non fiction text all about Florence Nightingale! We will then focus on narrative writing linked to our class reader Dogger, and we will also be focusing on poetry later in the half term.
