Science Week

As part of our Science week children in Year One have continued our topic of materials and seasonal change. We have begun developing our scientific enquiry skills of pattern seeking, fair testing and identifying, classifying and grouping.

The first experiment was to see which objects floated and which objects sunk. We discussed these results to see what patterns we can find. Secondly, we looked at which materials are waterproof and which absorbent. We made this a fair test by squirting the material the same amount each time and timing the water before checking for results. Our third lesson looked at the different ways we could classify and sort the autumnal leaves. We identified the different colours, type and size then grouped them based on these properties.

Balance and bike ability

This week the children have all thoroughly enjoyed working with Cycle North. They have learnt about staying safe whilst moving and riding a bike, gained confidence with riding a balance bike and a pedal bike.
