Making sushi

This term we have been learning about Tokyo and comparing it to Leeds. As part of this topic we learnt to make sushi. 

We had fun rolling the nori and we were all impressed with how well the sushi held it's shape! Most of us really enjoyed tasting it although some of us won't be eating it again soon! 

Leeds Trip

As part of our geography learning we visited Leeds. We used our maps to help us spot key landmarks such as Leeds Playhouse, the River Aire and the Town Hall. 

We also visited Elland Road and had a picnic at Kirkstall Abbey. 

Science

As part of our science learning we are conducting an experiment to find out what plants need to grow. We split into 5 groups and planted some cress seeds. Each group made one change. One group had water, soil, light and warmth. One group had no water. One group had no light. One group had no soil and one plant was placed in the fridge! 

I wonder which plants will grow?  We will be checking their progress over the next few weeks. 

Maths

In maths we have been focusing on developing our understanding of place value. We have been using Base 10 to help us create 2 digit numbers and using our understanding of number to help place them in order. 

Geography

As part of our Geography learning we have been looking at the cities of Leeds and Tokyo, thinking about how they are similar and how they are different. We explored places in Leeds such as Elland Road, Leeds Playhouse and the Town Hall. We used clues to help us locate these on a map of Leeds. We are excited to see some of these places in a few weeks on our visit to Leeds City Centre. 

English

Before reading our new text, The Enormous Crocodile, we made predictions about the order of the story. We then listened to the story and used the pictures to help us sequence the main parts.
