This morning the children have worked with Mrs O'Sullivan on debating. This is part of a project we are doing which will result in a debating competition as part of our Owlcotes Element - A way with words.
Outdoor Focus Week
This week, Year 6 are learning about the outdoors as well as carrying out some of their learning outdoors.
The children enjoyed making adverts with Mr Jack focussing on the main ways in which we can help with river conservation.
Do you think muddy water can be turned back into clean water?
This is what children in Y6C have been challenged with when studying rivers. The children have collaborated in teams of 4 to make their own filter using fabric, sand and different sized pebbles. They have then been given a water sample to filtrate. All the children had a great session and reflected on their filters throughout.
Year 6 had a special afternoon revisiting learning from Autumn Term. Nutritank is a student community that promotes evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine within medical education to improve health. Anjolaoluwa Sofuyi, who is a medical student and President of Nutritank Leeds, came to deliver a hands-on lesson about the importance of a balanced diet.
This was the last session for this group of children. They decided in the previous week after looking at seasonal foods to make onion bhajis, raita and rhubarb crumble. This was a bit of a challenge in 90 minutes but the group did well and took on a range of roles to ensure we were successful. The rhubarb was freshly picked from our school allotment by the children at the beginning of the session.
