DT - This week we made christmas cards with moving parts. We designed our cards with a lever system in mind and then turned our designs into real cards. We had to be accurate with cutting and marking holes, carefully create holes for our split pins and finalise the cards.

Leeds City Museum - To complete our learning on Ancient Egypt we had a trip to Leeds City Museum where we saw a real Egyptian mummy who was over 3,000 years old! We even had the opportunity to explore the mummification process with a workshop leader from the Museum. We had a wonderful day and really impressed everyone with our knowledge on Ancient Egypt!

History - We have been exploring other civilizations that were happening at the same time as the Ancient Egyptians. We found some similarities with the Shang Dynasty in China, the Sumer Civilization in Iraq and Indus Civilization in India. We looked at a range of sources and matched the artefacts to their descriptions. Did you know they all created their own early forms of writing like the Egyptians did with Hieroglyphics?

Computing - This half term we are looking at stop motion in computing. We created our very own miniature flip books and watched our drawings come to life. We really enjoyed this and cant wait to take them home to share!

Writing - We have been exploring a 'Dirty Bertie' text and role playing a dentist scene with focus on speech.

Science Blast - In science we mummified tomatoes. We are going to observe over time to reveal one tomato a week to see if our mummification process has been successful and if we have prevented rotting and decay in our tomatoes.

History - We explored an adventure to Ancient Egypt through our Now Press Play technology. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and adventure!

Science - Our second lesson on Light in science allowed us to test various materials to see if they were reflective or not. We are going to use our experiment to form our plans for designing a bookbag that can be see by drivers when children are walking home in the dark.

Writing - We have started a new class reader called 'Mr Stink' by David Walliams. We are going to be studying speech and spent the lesson performing the first chapter which was a conversation between Mr Stink and Chloe.

Science - We have started our new topic on Light in science and were exploring and sorting objects into those that were light sources and those that were not. We then experimented with objects in boxes. We discussed how without the presence of light we could not see the objects, when some holes were made in the boxes and light was present we could see the objects.

Art - This week we have been creating oragami poppies with recycled materials. They will be used for our class assembly on rememberence sunday this week and in our whole school display. We were also inspired by Clementine Hunter to create our own version of the Melrose Quilt full of things about us and things that make us happy.

Rugby trip! Year 3 and 4 of all the Owlcotes schools were lucky enough to attend the Women's Rugby League World Cup Opening Ceremony and first game England Vs Brazil. The children had a wonderful time and we even ended up being on TV.
